Tyro vs Zeller vs Ai-EFTPOS —
which is right for your café?
Three EFTPOS options come up constantly for Brisbane cafés and restaurants. None of them is perfect for every venue. Here’s an honest, no-sales-pitch breakdown — from someone who’s worked hands-on with all three.
Side by side
- Direct POS integration (Lightspeed, Impos, Kounta)
- Built for high-volume hospitality
- Split-bill support
- Monthly fee applies
- Approval process required
- Phone support — still call-centre based
- No monthly fees — transaction-based
- Quick setup, no approval process
- EFTPOS account and debit card included
- Less deep POS integration
- Good as standalone or backup terminal
- Support improving but still slow under pressure
- Plugs directly into Ai-POS — no third-party sync
- Auto-reconciles with every order
- Counter, kiosk and table-side support
- Surcharging and tipping built in
- No reconciliation headaches
- Single vendor for POS and payments
The real issue: any terminal can drop off your network
The most common EFTPOS callout we get isn’t the terminal itself — it’s the network underneath it. Your terminal goes offline because your router drops out, IP addresses conflict, or your Wi-Fi can’t hold the connection under peak load.
That’s a venue network problem. Doesn’t matter whether you’re on Tyro, Zeller, or Ai-EFTPOS — if the network isn’t set up properly, it will drop.
Which one should you choose?
- On Ai-POS? Use Ai-EFTPOS. It’s the native integration — no sync issues, no reconciliation gaps, single vendor.
- On Lightspeed or Impos? Tyro is the stronger fit. Purpose-built for hospitality volume with direct POS integration.
- New venue or just need a backup? Zeller gets you going with no commitment and no monthly fee.
If your EFTPOS is regularly going offline or dropping during service, that’s a network problem — not a terminal problem. HospoDoc can look at your venue network on-site and fix it properly.
